Spring Break, Family Spaces, and Real Talk: Where Do We Draw the Line?

Real Talk Series: No Judging, Just Real Conversations

A real conversation about respect, choices, and showing up in shared spaces.

I’ve been hearing more and more about what went on during Spring Break 2026 at the Houston Rodeo… and it’s been sitting heavy on my mind.

Before I go any further, I want to say this clearly… This is not a judging blog.

This is a helping blog.
A real conversation blog.

The truth is, we all have to learn, grow, and figure things out in life.

Let’s Talk About What Happened

One of the biggest topics I’ve been hearing about is how people were dressed at what was supposed to be a family-friendly event.

And I get it that the phrase “family-friendly” can mean different things to different people.

Some people are saying it comes from how someone was raised. Others are saying it goes deeper than that.

Actually…

I think it’s a little more complicated.

It’s Not Always About How You Were Raised

I grew up in a two-parent household. I was taught certain things.

But even with that, there were things I chose to do differently when raising my own children.

So, for me, I don’t believe it’s as simple as pointing to someone’s home and saying, “That’s the reason.”

Because I’ve seen people raised one way… and choose something completely different later.

This isn’t just about where you came from.

It Comes Down to Awareness and Choice

Yes, you can absolutely have the right to wear what you want.

No one can take that away from you.

But at the same time, there are spaces where we share the environment with others, including children.

Places like rodeos, stores, community events… even everyday places like Walmart.

When we step into those spaces, it’s not about restriction.

It’s about consideration.

Not out of shame.
Not out of fear.

But out of respect for the space and the people around us.

Not Everyone Was Taught  And That Matters

And I say this with love…

Not everyone was taught what that looks like.

Not everyone had those conversations growing up.

And some people are still figuring it out.

So if you’re reading this and thinking,
“Okay… but what does appropriate even mean in certain spaces?”

You’re not alone.

That’s a real question.

Let’s Help Instead of Judge

Instead of tearing each other down…

Instead of making assumptions about where someone came from…

What if we helped each other instead?

What if we had more honest, real conversations?

This isn’t about being better than anyone.

It’s about being aware, growing, and choosing how we show up in different spaces.

This Is Bigger Than Just One Event

This conversation doesn’t stop at one place or one moment.

It shows up in everyday life.

How we show up matters.
What we choose matters.
How we treat shared spaces matters.

And we’re all still learning.

You’re Not Alone in This

If this is something you’ve ever questioned, struggled with, or just never really talked about, I’m here.

No judgment here.

Just real conversation and real help.

If you want more real-life conversations like this, make sure to check out the rest of the blogs, where I share honest thoughts, personal growth, and encouragement for everyday life.

And if you’re someone who’s navigating feeling different, misunderstood, or just trying to find your place, my books were written for that, too.

This is more than a blog.

It’s a space to grow, learn, and support each other.
